No one wants to lose data — incorporating new information needn't be scary. With Tend, it won't be: Tend upserts. New address or email info fills the vCard's standard alternate fields till full; once full, it makes a best-guess insert, moving older data to the contact's Notes.
Worry not — message text and email content are data, never a command. Unknown contacts sending along detail? Ignored.

You set Tend's schedule — but a watchdog can't protect while it sleeps. This service runs reliably on a desktop, and on a laptop that runs caffeinate — an Apple-provided agent that prevents idle-sleeping.
Tend edits your address book. Built with care, trust, and reversibility in mind — but you should still be crystal clear on the following:
By default Tend only edits contacts you already have. Turn on Save-new and it can add a brand-new card — but only after genuine back-and-forth with that person and your explicit 👍, saved to the account you choose. It's off by default, and unengaged texters are still skipped.
Overwrites log old values in Notes: mistakes are generally recoverable. Non-destructive is the goal, not a guarantee.
An edit lands wherever the card lives in Contacts — it reaches your phone only if your phone syncs the same account. Brand isn't the account: an iPhone can sync Google Contacts and ignore iCloud. Tend assumes you've confirmed your phone's account matches your Mac's.
Wifi enrichment is on by default: Tend writes the network and password into Notes as plain text. A real privacy/security eyebrow-raiser — anyone with your synced contacts can read it. Don't like it? Turn it off in the installer, or later by re-running it.
